Have Fun Helping Others!
Starting and finishing in Callander, the town set in the Loch Lomond National Park and the gateway to the Highlands, the Callander Cycle Challenge, organised by Motherwell and Wishaw Rotary Club, allows you to support your chosen charity while enjoying some of Scotland's most beautiful scenery. All we ask is that you pay a registration fee of £25* (children £5) and pledge to raise funds for your chosen charity. Individuals, groups and families are welcome.
Most of the routes are off road or along quiet back roads - you can get a flavour from this video.
There are three routes you can choose from, to suit cyclists of all level of ability.
Route 1 - Callander to Strathyre
This is a family route suitable for children (around 8yrs+) and takes around 2-3 hours following the old railway line from Callander, past the Roman fort, up the side of the falls of Dochart and along Loch Lubnaig, across the suspension bridge into Strathyre. Return the same route. Round trip ~14 miles
Route 2 - Callander to Balquhidder (28 miles)
Starting the same as Route 1, then from Strathyre you follow the unlisted back road through the Strathyre forest to Balquhidder. This is a family route suitable for children (around 8yrs+) and takes around 4-5 hours. Rob Roy McGregor is buried in the church yard in Balquhidder. Return the same route. Approx 28 miles round trip.
Route 3 - Callander to Killin (50 miles and the climb up Glen Ogle)
Starting the same as Route 1 & 2 but from Strathyre pick up the new cycle route at the bridge in Strathyre and follow the path to the Kingshouse Road, picking up the cycle route. Follow the cycle path up above Lochearnhead and into Glen Ogle. At the top of the Glen cross the road and follow the forestry path down into Killin. Approx 50 miles round trip. For experienced cyclists only.
* The registration fee covers overheads, insurance, refreshments and first aid cover.
To date, participants have raised more than £60,000 for their charities.
